(MCC) Vintage Méthode Cap Classique
Pinot Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Chenin Blanc
TThe term R.D. means Recently Disgorged and is the traditional method of selecting an outstanding vintage Champagne or Méthode Cap Classique and allowing it many years of maturation on the lees so lending richness, power and weight before disgorgement.
The Krone R.D. 2002 is a rare vintage Méthode Cap Classique offering great concentration coupled with a delightful vibrancy which ensures that this fine MCC can be enjoyed on release or after further ageing.
This unique MCC spent 15 years in the cool underground
cellar at Twee Jonge Gezellen before disgorgement took place.
Disgorgement is a core process in the traditional method of
sparkling wine-making. It involves the removal of the frozen
sediment in the neck of the inverted bottle, at the conclusion
of the ageing process. Delaying the disgorgement allows the
wine to age in contact with the lees, sur lees aging, giving
it layers of subtle complexity while retaining the freshness
and vigour one finds in the younger vintage Méthode Cap
Classiques from Krone. The dosage in the R.D. has been kept
particularly low to maintain this freshness.
Iridescent gold with a luminous core. Baking aromas of
gingerbread as well as dried and caramelised fruit come to
the fore stitched together with a lemon zest perfume and
freshness. The palate is intense and complex offering baked
apple, salted caramel, roasted hazelnuts and a discreet note
of honey. The mid-palate and finish show breadth as well as
bright acidity making the wine perfect for enjoyment now and
for a few years to come. An incredible achievement for a 2002
